“Being prepared early in preparation for Shabbos Kodesh is a tried and tested segulah that works for all problems.” - R’ Aharon Leib Steinman
“It is an added measure of piety to be fully prepared for Shabbos by midday, having finished all heavy labor.” - Shelah Hakodosh
Why are Fridays always so frantic?
It’s fifteen minutes to Shabbos and the candles are not prepared, your face isn’t made up yet, and once again you're racing against the clock.
Sounds familiar?
This is a struggle so many of us face.
“As much as we try to be ready on time, it doesn’t work! Why is it so hard to be ready to greet Shabbos when it comes?
This is not just a matter of time mismanagement — there is a spiritual reason for it.
It is written in Torah sources that all the forces of evil that plague us all week, disappear on Shabbos. The yetzer hara knows it is about to be put out of commission for twenty-four hours - so it makes an extra effort beforehand. This effort generates many obstacles and delays us on our path as we try to properly prepare for Shabbos.
But this is our chance to tap into the tremendous potential of Shabbos. The way we begin Shabbos, is how it continues."

Chatzos (midday) on Erev Shabbos is a time when the holiness of Shabbos begins to descend upon us...
The goal of a Chatzos Shabbos is to spread preparations (and kedushah - holiness) through the week, and minimize work on Friday. Bathing, getting dressed, and light food prep are done Friday afternoon - but with a sense of calm to be ready to greet Shabbos properly.
